Happy Juneteenth Freedom Day from Afrimerican Culture Initiative Inc.!
Today, we honor the sacrifices of our ancestors who fought for our freedom, from the Civil War to the civil rights movement. Their struggles and triumphs have allowed us to enjoy the relative freedoms we have today.
Let us remember that freedom is not just the absence of physical chains but also the liberation from systemic oppression, mental bondage, and spiritual shackles. The struggle for true freedom continues...
May this day be a celebration of our resilience, a reminder of our history, and a call to action for a brighter future.

π’ Hyde Park Call to Action!
Join us for a crucial community meeting to discuss the new zoning code changes affecting Cleary Square, Logan Square, and surrounding residential streets.
ποΈ Date: Monday, June 24th
β° Time: 6 PM
π Location: Hyde Park Community Center (MUNI)
Address: 1179 River Street
The BPDA Squares and Streets initiative has created and passed a new zoning code that will dramatically affect Cleary Square, Logan Square, and surrounding residential streets. Our Hyde Park neighbors have sent a Citizen’s Petition to the City, asking for amendments to the new zoning code to protect Hyde Park.
Key Concerns Include:
Maintaining vibrant squares with commercial spaces on the first and second floors. The new zoning does not allow commercial space unless the buildings are 7 stories high.
Highlighting historic buildings & districts of Hyde Park.
Requiring the option to limit buildings to 4 units of housing in residential neighborhoods.
Allowing commercial use in 4, 5, and 6 story buildings.
Including off-street parking in new buildings.
Preventing displacement of local businesses and renters.
In response to the Square & Streets initiative, we will be highlighting Hyde Park's potential as the premier green space in Boston. Historically, Hyde Park was spared from the I-95 construction due to vigorous community activism, preserving the area's unique character and green spaces. However, these hard-won gains are now under threat from the proposed development.
